Structured Interviews
Structured Interviews can be a powerful research method. They can be used with customers, stakeholders, and process participants to obtain a wide variety of information. They are most effective when conducted by someone experienced in interview techniques. Once the research objective has been identified, an Interview Guide is prepared. The interviewer has the latitude and skill to balance a focus on the Guide questions with the attentive flexibility to pursue unanticipated but valuable tangent discussions. This often involves timely follow-up questions and effective summation and validation techniques. Structure interviews may be recorded (video and/or audio), and when done correctly, allow for both rich qualitative and limited quantitative analysis.
